MORE: Surprising NFL retirements

The former Seahawk, Giant and Eagle didn’t have a stellar career, but he always was a reliable player. Before last season, he changed his position from cornerback to safety to compensate for the Eagles’ lack of depth at the position.

Thurmond had arguably the best season of his career after the switch, recording career highs in tackles (71), interceptions (3), pass deflections (7), sacks (2) and forced fumbles (2). There was some hope he’d return, but it seemed unlikely once he started turning down offers.

Thurmond, 28, appears to have plans for life after football, as he’s been involved in filmmaking. He has produced three films already and has his name attached to three more. He also is directing a documentary with singer-songwriter Eddie Levert, who was the lead singer for the R&B group The O’Jays.
