All three victims have been taken to hospitals to receive treatment for the injuries sustained in the shooting, according to a CBS News report.

One victim, a 27-year-old man, was shot in the left leg. Another was a 25-year-old man and was shot in the chest and back, he was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in a critical condition.

The third victim was a 19-year-old woman who was shot in the right forearm and was taken to Roseland Community Hospital in a good condition.

The Chicago Police department have said that the victims were loading a vehicle with groceries purchased from the Walmart store in the 10900 block of South Doty Avenue around 7: 20 p.m.

A dark-colored sedan then drove by and the occupants from the car began firing shots at the victim.

A witness spoke to local media after the shooting.

“I saw people running in. They thought it was fireworks, but it was shots,” Walmart employee Arnez White said. “I came outside to see what was going on and I see two people laying on the floor.”

He added he heard between 10 and 13 shots.

A woman who was in the parking lot at the time of the shooting and wished to remain anonymous, said: “You know, you have senior citizens that come here quite often, you know, and you think about those people and the people that’s been coming here for years.

“So for me, it’s just really, it’s heartbreaking.”

Police are currently investigating the incident but so far have not given any indication of a motive for the shooting.

Newsweek has contacted the Chicago Police Department for comment.

The latest incident follows another shooting at a Walmart in Mobile, Alabama on December 27 that resulted in a man and woman suffering non-life-threatening injuries after two groups of people began shooting at one another following a quarrel in the self-checkout line.

Both groups attempted to flee the scene but police quickly arrived and the area and store went into lockdown.

Reports have indicated that authorities increased the police presence in the area after the shooting.

At the time Mobile Police Chief Paul Prine said it was not clear if the two victims were patrons or employees. He added that it was also unclear whether they knew each other.
