Janey Whiteside, Walmart’s chief customer officer, said in a press release: “We recognize the challenges our customers and their families have faced over the last few months, and we wanted to create an experience where they could come together safely to create new memories.
“The Walmart Drive-in is one small way we’re supporting the communities we serve.”
Tickets are free but must be requested in advance as tickets will not be available at the gate. Gates open at 6 p.m. local time and the movie begins at 7:30 p.m.
Walmart allowed its customers to request tickets on Wednesday and while some locations sold out quickly, the website says that registration may reopen. Once confirmed, customers will receive an email with a QR code, which will grant their vehicle entry on the day of the event.
Celebrity guests will also be attending the drive-in movie tour across the U.S., with Drew Barrymore acting as a virtual host for all events and making a surprise appearance at one location. Plus, there will be surprise virtual or in-person appearances from Peter Berg, Jennifer Garner, LeBron James and Chrissy Metz at select showings.
Moviegoers should bring an FM radio which is required for audio, (a car radio works), and a face mask when leaving the vehicle. Everyone must stay seated in the vehicle and alcohol is not permitted.
